Rambo III (aka Rambo 3) is widely considered as one of the weakest entries in the RAMBO series, with the long-retired franchise eventually revived and arguably bettered by [John] “Rambo” (2008) and then “Rambo: Last Blood” (2019) – also known simply as “Rambo 5”. The action in Rambo III transferred over to Afghanistan, although was filmed primarily in the deserts of Arizona, USA. The rather thin plot involves the hero rescuing his mentor and friend Colonel Sam Trautman (played once again by the late Richard Crenna). It’s an entertaining and of course also preposterous adventure yarn – and fans will also recall Crenna parodying his character in the Charlie Sheen comedy sequel “Hot Shots! Part Deux (also 1993)”.
